Ruben P. Ruiz grew up in California, where he attended Catholic elementary and high schools. He is an alumnus of Loyola-Marymount University and the University of Oregon, where he completed undergraduate and graduate degrees. He was the recipient of the Walter and Nance Kidd Tutorial Fellowship, and Graduate Teaching Fellowship from the University of Oregon. He was a Fulbright Scholar to the Netherlands in 1999.
He attended Santa Clara University School of Law. While there, he was a Law Faculty Scholarship recipient and served as an editor for the Santa Clara Computer and High Technology Journal. He graduated in 2003.
He began his legal career as a clerk for the United States Department of Justice, and thereafter entered private practice with several large law firms in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has extensive experience in personal injury and commercial law. He has represented clients in multimillion-dollar cases involving child sexual abuse in public and parochial schools, toxic exposure to chemicals, vehicular accidents, and numerous other personal injury claims.
In addition, he has represented clients in commercial and business disputes involving breach of contract, breach of promissory notes, fraudulent investments, shareholder and corporate governance suits, land development, commercial real estate, landlord-tenant eviction (unlawful detainer), and residential foreclosure.
